Pentagames session - I shared information about the Oregon Pentagames contest with Jennifer Cox. We only had 3 attendees, but they seemed happy to hear more about Pentagames.  More info at https://sites.google.com/site/pentagameswv/home.

Random Acts of Math - I shared resources for K-2 teachers (10 attended - including one of my former teachers - and current mentor).

Awards and Social was a place to honor the giants of Oregon math education and then network. I wish more people had stuck around.

Monday:
State of the state updates from Oregon Department of Education are always helpful.
"Let's start thinking in the thousands, not hundreds, of teachers to impact changing their practice."
-Mark Freed
Area meetings are a chance to brainstorm and plan events for math teachers in our area.
I attended a great session on using the math practices to differentiate.

Tuesday:
More time in area meetings. We submitted tasks to ODE for use with the Oregon Math Network: tinyurl.com/odemathtasks.
I attended another great session on involving students in formative assessment (and revising their work).

The closing keynote seemed like an ad for Apple. The apps from the Algebraic Thinking Project are great. I wish he'd emphasized those and not flipping classrooms...

As usual, I came home exhausted, but thoughtful.

  1. I promise I'll look up the Pentagames info online!

I was sorry to miss the awards, but felt I really needed that time to get to the dorm, unpack, and park the car while it was still light out. (It took us longer than we'd thought to park on the street and get oriented for registration, and then there were events to go to right to dinner.) Others may have been in the same boat. Then I had to figure out how & where to get sheets and towels & things. I did come back for some of the social stuff and had fun playing cards.

Really glad you did the Tweet Meet! (You were an organizer, not just a super helpful participant, weren't you?) I thought it was a big success!

    1. Nancy Swarat was the Tweet Meet organizer, but asked me to present. It was pretty organic by design. :) Thanks for your help!
